Things You Can Do to Help Stop the Spread and Support Immune Health

mom and son

Immune health is on our minds right now. Constantly. Whether you’re on the forefront of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as a healthcare provider, or among the millions quarantined or told to maintain ‘social distance’, protecting our immune health is an urgent need. While top-of-mind concerns include contracting the virus, there’s also an undercurrent of anxiety driving us. And what’s underneath that anxiety is a feeling that we have lost control of our most valuable resources—most importantly, our health.

Following expert guidance on how to prevent the spread of the virus, and taking measures to support our immune health are a few powerful ways we can help. Here are some tips and resources to do just that.

Stay at home.

Stay home, avoid spreading coronavirus, save lives. As much as possible. It’s that simple.

Why? Because the virus spreads faster the more people that get it, which puts high-risk people like grandparents, and people with diabetes, respiratory problems, or hypertension in danger. And it is massively taking a toll on the capacity of healthcare systems.

And while it isn’t all-or-nothing—many people still have important jobs to do outside of the house, and groceries need to be bought, this perhaps is one of  the most powerful ways you can help stop the spread of the virus.

Wash your hands; practice good hygiene.

Wash your hands, often. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. While we all know this is what we need to do, these things can be hard to put into practice. But now is the time.

Take measures to support your immune system.

The immune system is more than meets the eye. It comprises a large part of the human body, and is actually made up of many “systems”—digestive and lymphatic, to name a few. So it stands to reason that everyday measures you take to protect your overall health will result in strengthened immune health too. So on the daily, you should be doing these things:

  1. Get enough sleep. Sleep is absolutely the foundation of good health. It restores damage caused by the natural wear-and-tear of daily life, and gives your body adequate energy to counteract threats to immune health. Bottom line: sleep deprivation suppresses immune system function, so make sure you’re covered.
  2. Stay social. Even if we can’t be together in person, it’s important to stay connected. Activities like journaling to stay in touch with your own thoughts, as well as using video calling and virtual meeting apps are important to keep close to the important people in your life.
  3. Stay active. You may not be able to get to the gym regularly right now, but there are many in-home activities that can help keep you active. Roll out the yoga mat and strike a few poses in between conference calls if you’re working remotely. Discover a myriad of online workouts, some of which are free. And what’s even freer than free? How about a walk down the street, or around the yard? No dog required, but great for both of you if you have one. And then there’s the original social-distance workout: running, where the goal is to maintain distance from (preferably ahead of) other runners.
  4. Eat right. Peas and carrots—yes, they go together, and like all vegetables, as well as the major food groups, they help support immune health. But we’re busy. On the go. And we don’t always have time to prepare the foods that are best for us.

Because kids’ immune systems are not as fully developed as those of adults, they’re often susceptible to more illnesses. Providing help in the form of a juice or treat kids already love is a great option for helping keep them well.

Supplements: We can all use a little help sometimes in enriching our diet. And often that help comes in the form of dietary supplements that support the immune health of people of all ages. As an example, sachets are in high demand for on-the-go immune support.

Wellmune® is here to help.

We know these are uncertain times. But what we know for sure is that we all want to be well and stay well.

Wellmune, a natural yeast beta 1,3/1,6 glucan, is clinically proven to help strengthen the immune system against threats. What’s more, Wellmune has been shown to support mental clarity in times of stress. Backed by over a dozen clinical studies, here are just a few of the findings:

  • Wellmune led to lower severity ratings for nasal discharge and sore throat as well as less days lost due to upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) symptoms.
  • In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial with people 50 to 70 years old, people taking Wellmune had a reduction in the number of URTIs and the number of symptom days.
  • A clinical study showed there was a 62% reduction in the number of stressed women reporting URTI symptoms.
