How It Works

Wellmune WGP’s unique mechanism of action – how it works in the body – is well understood and the subject of several peer-reviewed studies.  Simply put, Wellmune WGP activates a large population of the body’s own immune cells to enhance natural defenses against foreign challenges.

Mechanism of Action

Once swallowed, Wellmune WGP is taken up into the body through the Peyer’s Patches, specialized regions in the small intestines.  There immune cells called macrophages engulf Wellmune WGP and degrade it into smaller fragments that bind to neutrophils, the most abundant immune cell in the body.  Primed with Wellmune WGP, neutrophils more effectively circulate throughout the body and kill foreign challenges.

Proof that it Works

How do we know that Wellmune WGP really works?  An important study published in The Journal of Immunology utilized fluorescently labeled Wellmune WGP that could be tracked with a microscope as it primed various immune cells for bioactivity.

On day one after ingestion, Wellmune WGP was detected in intestinal macrophage cells.  On day three, splenic macrophages break down the Wellmune WGP and release tiny fragments.  On the fifth day of the experiment, Wellmune WGP fragments are found on the cell surface of neutrophils.
